FAQ
Frequently asked questions
A few of the things we’re asked most often about solar, batteries, EV chargers
and general electrical work. If you don’t see your question here, just drop it in
your enquiry.
Do you cover my area?
We’re based in South London and regularly work around Croydon, Bromley, Sutton,
Mitcham, Streatham and nearby areas. For larger solar and battery jobs we can
travel further across London and the South East – send your postcode and we’ll
confirm.
Are you actually qualified and insured?
Yes. We’re registered with a Competent Person Scheme and work to BS 7671 and
Part P. You’ll receive the correct electrical certificates and any required
building control notification, and we carry full public liability cover.
Will solar and a battery actually save me money?
For most homes with decent daytime or evening usage, yes – especially if you also
run an EV or electric heating. How much depends on your roof, usage pattern and
tariff. We size systems around your real usage rather than just maxing out the roof.
Domestic solar and battery installs currently benefit from 0% VAT on qualifying
kit, and you may be able to earn from a Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff for
exported energy. We can talk you through what that means for you.
Do I need a battery, or can I just have panels?
You don’t have to have a battery. Panels on their own can still cut your daytime
bills. A battery usually makes sense if you’re home mornings/evenings, on a cheap
night-rate tariff, or want backup for outages. We’ll show you options with and
without storage so you can decide.
How long does an install take and how disruptive is it?
Most domestic solar + battery jobs take 1–2 days once scaffolding is up. EV
chargers and board changes are usually done in a day. There will be periods with
the power off while we work on your board, but we keep you informed and tidy up
properly afterwards.
What about planning permission and DNO applications?
Most standard domestic roof-top systems fall under permitted development, so no
planning is needed. Where a DNO application or notification is required (G98/G99
for solar, EV or battery), we handle that paperwork as part of the job.
What warranties and aftercare do you provide?
You’ll get manufacturer warranties on panels, inverters and batteries, plus our
workmanship guarantee. We keep digital copies of your paperwork and are happy to
help with app issues, setting up monitoring, and future checks or additions.
Can you fix or take over someone else’s install?
Usually, yes. We’ll need to inspect what’s been done – panels, wiring, board and
paperwork – then advise whether it’s a simple repair, a reconfiguration, or if
parts need to be brought up to standard. We’re honest if it’s not worth throwing
good money after bad.
Do you offer finance or ECO schemes?
At the moment we keep things simple with clear quotes and staged payments. If we
add finance or work under specific grant schemes in future, it will be explained
clearly in writing – no small-print surprises.
How quickly can you come out or get a quote over?
For smaller electrical jobs we can often give a guide price from a few photos.
For solar, EV and board upgrades we’ll usually book a site visit first. We aim to
respond to all enquiries within 1–2 working days, even if it’s just to let you
know when we can properly review it.
